Here’s how to get an N8 working with your Fido SIM card

  1. Get the phone by either:
    • Buying an unlocked version on ebay.
    • Get someone you know who is a rogers customer to purchase the phone for you, slip your SIM card in and purchase a $7.99 unlock code from cellunlocker.net.
  2. We start by adjusting the Internet Settings so that we can browse the internet on the handset.
    • Go to Menu > Settings >Connectivity > Settings > Destinations to display the network destination settings.
    • Select “+ Access Point” and respond no to the next prompt where it asks to check for available access points.
    • Select Packet Data access point and name it “Fido Internet”.
    • Select Internet on the Select destination prompt

    This should bring us back to the Network destinations screen. Select the “Internet” destination and from there, select our Fido Internet access point. Fill out the fields according to this:

    Press back and power the phone off and back on.

  3. Press menu and go to Web Browser > Settings > General and change Access point to Internet if it isn’t already selected. You should now be able to access the internet on your N8!
  4. Next we have to adjust the MMS settings so that we can send and receive text and media messages. Go back to the network destinations scream by following Menu > Settings >Connectivity > Settings > Destinations and follow these steps to create an MMS access point:
    • Select “+ Access Point” and respond no to the next prompt where it asks to check for available access points.
    • Select Packet Data access point and name it “Fido MMS”.
    • Select Media Messaging on the Select destination prompt
  5. This should bring us back to the destinations screen, select Media Messaging and then Fido MMS. Fill in the fields according to this:
    • Connection name: Fido MMS
    • Data bearer: Packet data
    • Access point name: mms.fido.ca
    • Username: fido
    • Prompt Password: No
    • Password : fido
    • Authentication: Normal
    • Homepage: http://mms.fido.ca
      • Now select Options on the bottom left and choose Advanced Settings
    • Network type: IPv4
    • Phone IP address: Automatic
    • DNS addresses: Automatic
    • Proxy Server address: 205.151.011.013
    • Proxy port number:0

    Press back twice and power the phone off then on.

  6. Finally, go to Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Multimedia message and change the “Access point in use” to “Fido MMS”. You can now send and receive text messages on your N8!
